"You've Done It Now" from Hollie Sheard and Friends
English soul and pop songwriter Hollie Sheard has been using Drums on Demand and Bass on Demand for several years to help her write and record songs. Loops from Mixed Bag 1, Ballads & Slow Grooves, Acoustic R&B, and Bass on Demand appeared on several tracks which featured on her debut album, Truth or Dare. Three of those songs went on to win semi-finalist awards in the UK Songwriting Contest.
"I've used other brands of drum loops in the past, but they had sloppy timing, hardly any variation, and they often sounded too "digital" for my music. Drums on Demand is nothing like that - it's a breath of fresh air."
"The makers of Drums on Demand have obviously thought carefully about how songwriters will use their loops. There's so much choice, and they're all arranged in a way that's easy to find, down to the smallest detail like the all-important Chorus and Verse loops having exclamation marks at the beginning so they're first in the list alphabetically. And here's another cool thing - when I import them into Cubase SX3 they automatically change tempo to fit the song!"
Hollie Sheard and Friends have their own skilled drummer, but after numerous attempts at DIY drum miking, they decided to let the pros handle it. "If you've got unlimited time in a huge expensive studio and a great sound engineer on call, then ok, record your own drums. But if not, then Drums on Demand can make it sound like you did."
After purchasing the Funk & Soul and Warm & Natural volumes via download, Hollie decided to use Drums on Demand for her entire upcoming album, "By Hook Or By Crook". It's set to be released in summer 2010 and will feature the soul-funk fusion song "You've Done It Now".
This song uses loops from Acoustic R&B, and manages to include a drum solo! Although Hollie's band recorded the rest of the parts including the bass, the riffs are also from Bass on Demand. "My bassist loved the riffs so much he wanted to play it exactly the same!"
